Hello-And Happy Halloween!
I've been working at Newschannel Five for almost 19 years, and this new website for moms is just another reason I'm thrilled to be a part of this station. What a great idea! I love the concept because my schedule limits the face-to-face time I can spend with other moms and female friends.

I've found women raising children experience many of the same joys, sorrows, victories and defeats, and what better place to be able to share a few moments about mothering than here.

My hope is that even the busiest, most over-scheduled mom will likely be able to find a few minutes to connect. As a wife, mother of a five-year-old and step-mother of two beautiful young women in their 20s, I am looking forward to connecting with you.

There is so much to share and talk about. Let's start with Halloween.

What?! It's not even Labor Day you say?

Well, we've been planning Halloween at my house for a few weeks now. From costumes to decorations to what to hand out at the door, no detail is too small or too insignificant, even if the official start of fall is still weeks away.

Of course, this is all from the perspective of a little boy who loves Halloween just as much as Christmas, if not more!

I've always liked Halloween, but my little boy is just wild about it. His birthday falls just two days after October 31, and so we've used Halloween as a theme for his birthday parties. I assume that's what triggered this incredible enthusiasm about everything from pumpkins to fake vampire teeth.

Even our Halloween decorations have multiplied dramatically over the past several years. I still have more boxes of Christmas ornaments than I do Halloween items, but it's definitely the only holiday besides Christmas that we really decorate for.

I'll even admit I enjoy dragging out the spider web centerpiece and the ceramic pumpkin. Getting out the decorations means the dancing Hallmark ghost from a few years ago will be making a return appearance, and the tune of "Ghostbusters" will be heard over and over through the house.

We won't do that for at least another week or two.

Too soon, many will say. But I cherish these times because I know there will be a year when Halloween won't be met with quite the same excitement as it is now.

Halloween is one of my favorites as well. My children are only three, so this is still a little new to them, but they are definitely feeding off my excitement! This was the first year they were old enough to really pick out their own costumes. So much fun!

Now I'm ready for the cooldown. I feel like we're getting cheated out of fall...but it looks like it's right around the corner.

ABOUT ME

Health and medical issues make up one of the most exciting beats in the newsroom. Few other areas of news touch each and every one of us so closely and so often.

Whether you're a senior worried about paying for prescription drugs, a parent concerned about the health of a child or waging your own fight against cancer or heart disease, you can usually find health news that applies to you in my daily reports.

I always tell St. Louisans they are so fortunate when it comes to health care. Our city is home to two research hospitals.

Doctors and scientists at Washington University School of Medicine and St. Louis University School of Medicine are involved in some of the most critical research underway in medicine today.

Work is bring done right at this moment, right in our area, that could lead to a vaccine for bird flu or better ways to diagnose and treat Alzheimer's disease.

I enjoy staying on top of those stories, as well as bringing you health and medical news you can use.

Along with the latest medical breakthroughs, you'll frequently find information on low-cost exercise programs right around the corner from where you live, or details on where to get this year's flu shot.

Many viewers want to know whether I have a medical background.  I don't, but my mother was a nurse and I know her health background made a big impression on me as a child.

It's the lifelong curiosity and interest I have in health issues that serves me well in my work as health reporter.

Staying on top of what you need to know to stay fit and healthy is a job I love.
